Meet the True Heroes L.A.S.E.R. Team

Many big-box stores have their own line of 'knock off' action figure toys, usually priced lower to compete with the likes of G.I. Joe and others, but most of them are pretty lame, and poorly produced. Toys R' Us has their own line of action figures that just might be kinda cool.

Part of the 'True Heroes' collection, which includes firefighters, police, Wild West and even Pirates, the L.A.S.E.R. squad is a crew of four heroes, dressed in futuristic armor, and brandishing all sorts of weaponry and vehicles. Land, Air, Sea, Elite Rangers have names like 'Crash', The Brain, Mad Martens, and 'The Eye', each with their own profiles and history. You can buy equip them with a Mech, an armored truck, or an armed-to-the-teeth jet. The line even has it's own website and online comic strips, as well as coloring pages and wallpaper for the kid's computer screen.

You can check out the L.A.S.E.R. line at their website:

US Military Space Plane Racks Up Frequent Flyer Miles

The US Air Force has been busy testing its latest robotic space plane, the X-37B.  The vehicle is 29 feet (8.8 meters) long and 15 feet (4.5 m) wide, with a payload bay about the size of a pickup truck bed. It was launched into orbit via an Atlas 5 rocket on Dec. 11, 2012, and is still circling the Earth. This is the third such mission for this mini-shuttle, and the Air force is keeping quite secret about its purpose.

Now, as die-hard SF fans, we can form our own speculations about this project, can't we? So let's try:
  • Equip it with a pressurized module, and it becomes a rescue craft for astronauts on the International Space Station. No more total dependance on the Russians.
  • Give it enough fuel, and it can land on the Moon, paving the way for a new US presence. Baby-boomers have been waiting for at least three decades on this one.
  • Is there another secret, manned US Air Force Space Station in orbit being resupplied by the X-37? Hmm, one wonders. Does International Rescue really exist? You can have lots of fun with that one!
The second mission for this vehicle lasted 469 days, proving its reliability as a renewable, long-term spacecraft. But until the Air Force lifts all the secrecy, fans of the space program will have to settle for

Stargate SG-1 Interactive Game Debuts March 7, 2013.

We finally have some more information about that new Stargate SG-1 videogame, and it looks even cooler than we first thought.

The epic teaser trailer for the new episodic mobile game Stargate SG-1: Unleashed caught us off guard last week, with a welcome return to the world of Goa’uld and event horizons. Now some new details have trickled out about the first episode of Unleashed, which is set for release on the iOS App Store on March 7. An Android release will follow about a month later.

The story is being handled by Sally Malcolm, who has a ton of experience with the Stargate canon. She’s written the tie-in novels Stargate SG-1: A Matter of Honor, The Cost of Honor and Atlantis Rising. She also scripted some SG-1 audio dramas, so she’s definitely well versed in the series.

Turns out that first trailer was also a good representation of what we can expect from the game, which is being described as an “original story with interactive elements.” What that means we don’t know, but we’re hoping it's more like the acclaimed Walking Dead game and not just a slightly interactive CGI episode. But regardless, we’ll take whatever Stargate goodies we can get.

Even cooler? All the original cast members have signed on to lend their voices to the app, including Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping and Christopher Judge. With a potential follow-up DVD movie still on hold because of MGM's money woes, it looks like this is the closest we're going to get to an SG-1 reunion anytime soon.

NSB Games, a local game company located in Providence, RI, has started a Kickstarter Campaign to promote and produce it's latest version, "Hull Breach: Corporate Wars."

What is Hull Breach? Here's an excerpt from the company website: "Hull Breach is a tactical and strategic sci-fi card game that pulls elements from the worlds of wargaming, miniatures games, and real-world combat.

Players assume command of a space station in their corner of the galaxy and fight their opponents for dominance of their sector. You'll manage an economy, field a fleet of warship, and command companies of Marines. Use clever tactical options and special game-changing events to destroy everyone who stands in your way

Hull Breach is a game for two or more players and uses both cards and dice.  A 1v1 game might be over in 15 minutes, but the more players you add, the longer and more complex the game becomes!"

The Kickstarter campaign has already started, but this project will only be funded if at least $25,000 is pledged by Sunday Mar 17, 9:41pm EDT. You can pledge as little as $1 for a hearty 'thank you', and pledging more gives you a variety of cool stuff, such as exclusive collector cards, posters, and other Hull Breach goodies. For more information, check out the NSB website: www.hullbreachgame.com
