Originally pitched and rejected by Fox, the show will be the fifth superhero series on the network.
Black Lightning follows Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) as a former superhero who turned in his uniform years ago, and became a teacher. But with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he resumes his role as Black Lightning.
The series is produced by Greg Berlanti, the success behind the CW's other superhero series', "Arrow", "The Flash", "Supergirl" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow."
